Bikes 4 Kids in Care

We are delighted to share that we have secured funding from BBC Children in Need to support our Bikes 4 Kids in Care scheme for the next three years.

Why this project matters

At Bowland Bikes CIC we would love to help less fortunate young people get access to a bicycle and help them start out on the journey. Looked-after children can have a tough start to life, often filled with trauma, disruption and uncertainty.

Cycling can have a profound effect on a young person’s mental wellbeing. It can help relieve stress, increase confidence, improve sleep quality, enhance cognitive function and encourage social interaction.

Alongside those wellbeing benefits, cycling also offers clear physical benefits including improved balance and coordination, stronger muscle groups, improved cardiovascular health and a greater awareness of the environment around them.

  • Confidence and independence
  • Social connection
  • Wellbeing and stress relief
  • Healthy activity and routine
  • Basic mechanical understanding
  • Safe access to cycling

What we aim to provide

Our aim is to help bring joy, freedom and health benefits by providing a professionally prepared, safe and road-legal bicycle package for young people who would benefit from cycling.

Each bike package is prepared to a safe, road-ready standard by Bowland Bikes CIC. Where appropriate, packages can include essential safety equipment such as a helmet, lock and lights.
